As intense stewards of the land, we know we have a moral obligation to protect our land for our children and our communities. But for us, this is more than an obligation: It is a commitment. In addition to our farm land, we own hundreds of acres of land inhabited by wildlife. We work hard to maintain this land as a suitable area for this wildlife.
On the land we use, we take careful and consistent soil samples that help us measure the nutrient level. Every year, we fertilize the land with our natural fertilizer: manure, an outstanding fertilizer packed with nutrients and organic matter for the soil. We are always mindful to apply exactly what the next growing crop will need, never more nutrients than the land needs. |
As part of our commitment to our environment, we also perform daily inspections on our spreading equipment to insure that it is in working order and free of leaks.
Inspections we perform each week include:
• Storm water diversions
• Channeling devices
• Liquid storage facility
To meet groundwater requirements, we regularly check depth-to-groundwater.
Factors that influence this:
• Soil type and moisture content
• Field topography
• Weather patterns (wet or dry seasons)
• Drainage systems (ditches and drain tiles)
• Crop and tillage types
Every manure application must meet the depth-to-groundwater requirement to insure there is no chance of pollution. |
