Rosendale Dairy was recently honored for earning the prestigious Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Management. This award recognizes businesses dedicated to adopting energy-efficient and sustainable practices in Wisconsin.
“I think it’s a lack of education sometimes,” said Casey Jones, an Oshkosh-based wastewater specialist with the DNR, of why some neighbors are objecting to new technological advances at Rosendale Dairy.
Cows can freely walk from the stalls over to the carefully mixed feed whenever they want. "When I was a kid, cows were tied up in barns," said Ostrom. Another thing: Cows like it cool, so the barn uses swamp coolers along one wall to keep the air in the low 70s, while exhaust fans on the other wall generate a constant 6 mph breeze.

Everybody has walked inside a factory. They are full of bad smells, dirty workers, messy equipment, and bad lighting; so when people use the phrase, factory farm, you picture stinky and dirty barns, callous workers, and messy, neglected cows. When Milksource decided to build their newest and biggest dairy in Rosendale, Wisconsin, that phrase was thrown around like the basketball in a Marquette game. Apparently, none of these people have stepped one foot on this farm.
